Oopa Slings were named for a colloquial phrase (spelled “upa” in Portuguese) that adults use when speaking to young children to say “Let me pick you up!” Amy Glovsky Abreu founded the company in 2004 when, as a new mother, she found herself increasingly disappointed with the carriers available on the market. Even the ones her friends raved about were either uncomfortable or unattractive. So Amy began designing her own slings for herself and her friends, creating a hip and stylish alternative to the available options. Oopa Slings seek to make babywearing both a fashion statement and an incredibly beneficial thing to do for your child.

Oopa Slings are made from deliciously soft fabric. 100% Cotton Pique Oopa Slings are made from the same imported Italian fabric made to use fine men’s dress shirts. The textured pattern is slightly raised, which makes it grippy and less likely to slip through the rings. The Pique Oopa Slings are versatile and elegant, durable and washable, wrapping your baby in comfort and style.
The featherweight 100% Cotton Chambray Oopa Slings are durable, sporty and incredibly comfortable. Cotton Chambray weighs just 6.5 grams per yard, making this an excellent choice for hot weather. But make no mistake, the Cotton Chambray Oopa Slings are the toughest of all Oopas. They can take the toughest beating your little one has to dish out and will absolutely stand the test of time. You can expect to find some slight color variation in Cotton Chambray Oopa Slings.
Oopa Slings use aluminum rings designed and tested to withstand up to 300 pounds – though as comfortable as they truly are, we would not recommend carrying a baby over 35 pounds. (Just because you CAN do something doesn’t mean you should.) These rings are designed exclusively for use in baby carriers like the Oopa Sling.
