Oopa Cashmere Slings are an elegant and cozy take on the traditional Oopa Slings, named for a colloquial phrase (spelled “upa” in Portuguese) that adults use when speaking to young children to say “Let me pick you up!” Amy Glovsky Abreu founded the company in 2004 when, as a new mother, she found herself increasingly disappointed with the carriers available on the market. Even the ones her friends raved about were either uncomfortable or unattractive. So Amy began designing her own slings for herself and her friends, creating a hip and stylish alternative to the available options. Oopa Cashmere Slings seek to make babywearing both a fashion statement and an incredibly beneficial thing to do for your child.
Each Oopa Cashmere Sling is completely handmade, so you know you have a completely unique heirloom in which to cradle your child and one day pass along. Melding traditional babywearing methods with modern day flair, Oopa Cashmere Slings help you wear your baby in style!
Oopa Cashmere Slings are made from deliciously soft fabric. Sensual four-ply woven cashmere from Nepal keeps you and your baby warm and cuddly as the days get crisp. The elegant array of cashmere colors allows you to complete any outfit with style!
Oopa Cashmere Slings use aluminum rings designed and tested to withstand up to 300 pounds – though as comfortable as they truly are, we would not recommend carrying a baby over 35 pounds. (Just because you CAN do something doesn’t mean you should.) These rings are designed exclusively for use in baby carriers like the Oopa Cashmere Sling.
Oopa Cashmere Slings are designed to have a long and flowing tail. The tail of sling allows you to pull on it to make adjustments and get the perfect position for your baby. The tail transforms the Oopa Cashmere Sling from a basic baby carrier into an innovative fashion accessory. The flowing tails in gorgeous fabrics add a hint of glamour to your new-mommy life, but they also serve a functional purpose. The tail of the Oopa Cashmere Sling provides a discreet nursing cover or plenty of fabric to shield your baby’s head from the elements. And the extra warmth of cashmere gives you an extra cuddly blanket on the fly.
You should treat your Oopa Cashmere Sling like you would treat your absolute favorite item in the closet. Hand wash your Oopa Cashmere Sling in cold water with a delicate detergent, and never put your Oopa in the dryer!
You can wear your Oopa Cashmere Sling in a variety of different positions, depending on your baby’s age and needs. The hip Carry, the Cradle Carry and the Kangaroo Carry are the most popular. Before you use your Oopa Cashmere Sling for the first time, practice with a doll to get the feel of the sling. You can also practice in front of a mirror or over a soft surface like a bed. In a short time, you will feel comfortable and confident slinging your baby in any situation.
